Super Heroes Have Issues Too t-shirt

Fellow match-head Patrick Wait recently spotted this humorous t-shirt at Kohl’s. You can also order it from My Tee Spot.

It’s hard to make out the design from the image above, so I found this other image online. Apparently they don’t make the white version anymore, but the design is essentially the same as the purple one above.

Big Bang Theory – Sheldon Wears Firestorm

This past week on The Big Bang Theory, the character of Sheldon was spotted wearing a t-shirt featuring Firestorm! The episode was entitled “The Russian Rocket Reaction” and you can see the shirt below.

Below is a close-up of the t-shirt image. We featured it here on FIRESTORM FAN back in 2009. It’s an unusual collection of characters: Red Tornado, Doctor Fate, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, and everybody’s favorite Nuclear Man. Near as I can figure, the artwork on this shirt must have been produced in conjunction with the second wave of Super Powers action figures. These happen to be the exact five superheroes that were released in that wave. Otherwise, I can’t think of a time these particular heroes were together for an image like this. Firestorm Patches

There is a segment of folks out there that love to collect patches. Personally, whenever I think of patch collecting it reminds me of the late 1970s and denim jackets. However, given that I live in a glass house built of Firestorm memorabilia, I’m not one to cast stones.

Until a few weeks ago, I didn’t even know there were Firestorm patches! I won the Firestorm patch below on eBay recently. It was produced by Willabee & Ward as part of their Official DC Comics Patches collection.

The border and classic Firestorm logo were embroidered. The image of Firestorm himself has been printed on the fabric. This drawing of Firestorm looks REALLY familiar, but I’m having a hard time placing it. I think it may have been used with the Super Power action figure, but further research would be needed. Does anyone have the cut-out Firestorm data card from the Super Powers action figure card? If so, any chance you could send me a scan of both sides? It would be greatly appreciated.

The patch came attached to a nice oversized, heavy paper-stock information sheet (called a “Collector Panel”). The sheet provides a Who’s Who-like history of the classic Firestorm. It’s well-written, entertaining, and accurate. The sheet measures 9 by 12 inches, while the patch measures just about 4 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches. Click the two images below to read the information sheet.

As I mentioned, this patch is part of the Official DC Comics Patches collection by Willabee & Ward. According to their website each patch is framed by embroidered patterns of up to 15,000 separate stitches. The collection includes other DC heroes such as Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman.

If you’re interested, the collection is available on a subscription basis. You receive your first DC Comics Patch for just $4.95, shipping and service included. Subsequent patches shipped two per month, at $19.95 each, plus $1.95 each shipping and service. Ouch, seems a little pricey to me, but if you’re into patches and superheroes then it sounds like this is for you.

While surfing for information on these patches, I came across another set of Firestorm patches. I tell ya, apparently there is a whole world of patch collecting out there I knew nothing about! This next set of patches is advertised as “Set of Firestorm Super Powers Embroidered Patches”. It comes from an Argentinean website called Amos Del Retro. The patch of Firestorm’s head looks pretty cool; exactly like Firestorm from the Super Powers cartoon. I’m guessing these Argentinean patches are not officially endorsed by DC, but they still look pretty neat. If you are interested in picking up these patches, you can check out the Amos Del Retro website or their offerings on eBay.

Firestorm Shield T-Shirt

You may recall a few weeks ago we looked at some Batman: The Brave and the Bold temporary tattoos. Among the faux tats were a few very unusual-looking hero logos. Well, a company called 80s Tees has produced shirts for some of these shield-like superhero logos. See the Firestorm t-shirt below…

They’ve also produced t-shirts based upon the shield logos for Red Tornado, Blue Beetle, and the Atom. Wild!

Firestorm Wallets

Check out these super-cute Firestorm wallets produced by micahmyers on Etsy.com. Each wallet is handmade from the actual comic book pages and covered with shelving paper. According to his site, each wallet has two pockets, can hold several cards, and has a large money compartment. The wallets are approximately 8″ wide when opened and 2.5″ tall.

The wallets normally sell for $3 each plus shipping, but appear to be on sale for $2 today. At the time of this writing, there are six different Firestorm wallets available on Etsy.com.

The creator has several other handmade wallets featuring your favorite superheroes. Be sure to check ‘em out!

New Firestorm T-shirts – WANT!

Here are two new Firestorm t-shirts from PopFunk!

This first one below is entitled, “Ring of Firestorm“. It’s a nice representation of the Ronnie Raymond/Martin Stein Firestorm. I like the bold orange and the faded look. Great shirt! The artwork appears to be stock art provided by the same artist that did this other shirt. WANT!

This next shirt has the distinction of being the first Jason Rusch/Firestorm t-shirt in which he’s featured by himself! This one is entitled, “Firestorm Blaze“. I love the Jamal Igle-designed costume and the flaming corona is a nice touch. WANT!

Nuclear News – 2009.10.26 – T-Shirt, Wallpapers, M&Ms, and more

I stumbled across two great Firestorm wallpapers designed by Roger over at the Sensor Sweep blog. The art is by Dick Dillin (long-time JLA vol I artist) and Mike McKone (Teen Titans, JLA Wedding Special). The Captain’s JLA Blog recently featured an alternative Justice League team shot drawn by Rafael Albuquerque (Blue Beetle, Superman/Batman). It included the Jason Rusch Firestorm and is worth a look.
Firestorm made a cameo back in 2006 in The Order of the Stick webcomic. Thanks to Adama for pointing me in that direction.

Firestorm Boxers?!?! Seriously!

I never thought I’d live to see the day they put Firestorm on a pair of boxers! Check these out!

I can understand putting Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Robin, and even Green Arrow on licensed merchandise. They are all characters the general public is likely to recognize. But Firestorm and Doctor Fate?!?! They happen to be two of my favorite characters, but I’m not sure anyone in the general public would be able to identify them. They both have proven time and again they can’t support their own monthly comic books. Oh well, I’m not complaining!

My thanks to Patrick, long time Firestorm fan. He e-mailed me last week after seeing these boxers in K-Mart. I ran out to the store and picked up a pair myself. You should still be able to find a pair at your local K-Mart (possibly other retailers as well).

I’m really pleased that Firestorm was placed in the center of the image. After Superman, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow, the focus is really on Firestorm (even more so than on Batman). The only downside is that Firestorm is right on the flap of the boxers. Awkward. Just be thankful I didn’t model them for you!
